Graduate Seminar in Cuba

This seminar is designed to expose students to the intersection of race, gender and religion in Cuban popular culture. Through visits to cultural and religious sites, community centers, markets,  and museums in Havana Cuba and its surroundings, meetings with researchers from Cuban educational and cultural institutions, students are able to trace the way race, gender and religion have shaped and been shaped by Cuban popular culture. The main goal of this course is to go beyond the traditional setting of classroom and experience the culture and engage with its elements in more concrete ways.
